Dine with the Romans: Celebrating Saturnalia
21 December / 6:00pm
Make your way to the Roman Villa after hours and enjoy a feast inspired by the theatre and flavours of a mid-winter Roman festival
£ 70 per person.
Back by popular demand - dinner goes antiquarian at Villa Ventorum as we take a leaf out of the ancients' book and serve up a feast worthy of Bacchus himself. Following the success of our Equinox dinner, this time we'll be celebrating Saturnalia!
A mid-winter Roman festival celebrated from the 17th December to the 23rd December, Saturnalia encompassed feasting, drinking, dancing and singing, as well as gift-giving on the final day - perfect for getting in the festive spirit.
Drink in hand, enjoy an intimate tour of the villa after hours, led by our expert Villa Ventorum team. From here, guests will enjoy a feast inside the villa with live music and Romans traditions.
The evening’s menu looks back almost two thousand years, drawing on dishes recorded by writers including Cato the Elder, Columella, Virgil and the unverified compiler of De Re Coquinaria. Some recipes have been recreated faithfully, while others have been gently adapted using the finest seasonal produce from the estate. Full menu to follow shortly.
Please note seating will be banquet style and sharing plates to enjoy.
The Museum will be closed during this experience, while the villa is open to explore at your lesuire.
