The Newt in Somerset is a country estate with splendid gardens, woodland and farmland. The core is Georgian, with limestone buildings the colour of burnt orange, the seat of the Hobhouse family for more than two centuries. Innovative design is paired with country walks, garden produce and superb service – wrapping you in a sense of wellbeing.
Our hotel and restaurants are currently closed due to national lockdown. Our gardens and shops remain open for exercise and essentials, but only for those living within the community of our local area. Nourishing foods produced here on the estate, or by our friends and neighbours, are available from the Farm Shop and online shop.
See 'What's On' for this season's virtual tours and workshops that bring the gardens into your home.
Combining the warmth of a Georgian family home with contemporary styling and the simplicity of country living.
Parkland, woods, orchards and abundant gardens of various ages, with exquisite views across Somerset.
Apples are crushed in our Cyder Press then pumped into the Cyder Cellar, employing the most advanced technology to preserve subtle flavours and vitamins within the juice.
The Cyder Bar boasts views over the Parabola, and further beyond to apple orchards and rolling Somerset hills.
A weekly window into the gardens.
See what else has been happening on the ground this season, with more Newt Minute moments.
Join our resident beekeeper Paula Carnell (aka ‘Queen Bee’) or a member of her bee team, for a walking tour of our colonies of rare, native and wild bees. Advanced booking is required, though you may be able to book on the day if space allows. Please click Book Now or enquire with our hosts in the Threshing Barn upon arrival.
The Botanical Rooms Head Chef Ben Champkin has launched a weekly changing menu available every Friday and Saturday, for you to simply heat and serve at home.

‘Apple Day’, which actually falls on 21 October - the Thursday before the weekend - was started in 1990 by Common Ground. Apple Day aims to raise “awareness not only of the importance of orchards to our landscape and culture, but also in the provenance and traceability of food” - these are philosophies that we at The Newt also hold dear. Plus, we really like an excuse to celebrate apples.
The weekend shall be a two-day celebration of all things apple; from juice pressing to apple games, displays, recipes, cyder tastings and tractor tours through the orchards. Expect live music and DJs, apple-themed menus as well as our ever popular hog roasting on a spit over fire for the carnivores!
