Afternoon Tea Aboard The Maid of Somerset

Coming soon! Journey back to the ‘Golden Age of Travel’ aboard the Maid of Somerset. The British Pullman carriage has been lovingly restored and relocated to The Creamery’s picturesque garden at Castle Cary station. Settle into one of two saloons transporting you to a bygone era and indulge in traditional afternoon tea with a Newt twist. Head of Food, Gelf Alderson has conjured a cheering menu of sublime sandwiches, scones and home-made sweet treats, celebrating ingredients grown, foraged and produced on our Somerset estate.

The Garden Café

The Garden Café celebrates everything you can see out of the window on a clear day. Enveloped by the gardens, guests can enjoy views out over the kitchen garden and orchards, which inspires the seasonal, vegetable-led menus. Serving breakfast and lunch, seven days a week.

Please note, Newt Membership is required to visit the Garden Café. Members can invite non-members, however a Day Guest Pass is required.

Mothering Sunday at The Garden Café

Treat your mum or the female figure in your life to a special Sunday Lunch at the Garden Café this 30 March. Chefs Dale, Beth and the team are showcasing the spoils of spring with a two or three-course set lunch for the table. Dig into the likes of asparagus with lemon butter sauce, estate leg of lamb accompanied by Market Garden veg and poached rhubarb with frozen custard.

Easter Sunday at The Garden Café

Gather family and friends for Easter Sunday Lunch at the Garden Café to enjoy a special celebratory menu for the table. You’ll find watercress soup, with horseradish and cured ham; estate lamb with wild garlic and vibrant veg sides; simnel bread pudding with marzipan custard, and plenty more deliciousness besides. Choose between two or three courses designed to delight tastebuds with a riot of fresh spring flavours.

The Garden Café offers breakfast, lunch and dinner led by the land. Enjoy a vegetable-led menu while taking in the kitchen gardens and orchards below. Please note, The Garden Café is only bookable if you have a Newt Membership.

The Botanical Rooms

Enjoy elegant, modern British dishes in luxurious surroundings. Evolving seasonal menus showcase estate reared British White beef, lamb and venison alongside the freshest market garden vegetables, day boat fish from the Dorset coast and fleeting ingredients foraged from the hedgerows and woodland.

Non-members and non-hotel residents are welcome for lunch and dinner with an advance booking. Please follow signs to the Hotel upon your arrival at the main entrance.

The Botanical Rooms

The Botanical Rooms at Hadspen House offers a window on a rich Georgian heritage. Feast on the choicest cuts from the salt room, dayboat fish from the Dorset coast and vegetables grown in the soil beneath your feet.

Farmyard Kitchen

Experience creative, seasonal plates made for sharing at the heart of our former dairy at the Farmyard. Alive with wood-fired cooking from the open kitchen, tuck into hearty fare using seasonal ingredients grown, reared and foraged on the estate. Push the boat out at dinner with a special chef’s choice menu for the table.

Lunch & Dinner are available to non-members when booked in advance. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your booking time via the main entrance, off the A359, and park in the hotel car park, to allow time to buggy over to the Farmyard.

Farmyard Kitchen

Located in an old threshing barn, the beating heart of a repurposed dairy farm Farmyard Kitchen serves hearty, cheering fare using ingredients grown, foraged and reared on the estate.

The Station Café at The Creamery

Pull up a stool at the bar or sink into a leather booth inspired by traditional railway station houses. Whether you're dropping in for a quick bite before your train journey or looking to enjoy a more leisurely brunch, The Station Café at The Creamery offers up a slice of the Somerset good life. Hearty British classics served simply and generously. Ingredients come fresh from the market gardens and Butchery at The Newt.

Please note, in line with winter estate opening hours, The Station Café at The Creamery will be open for brunch and lunch service only until 20 March 2025.
