A Day with the Romans: Wattle and Daub Walls
28 September / 10:00am
Spend a day at the Roman Villa discovering the ancient craft of wattle and daub construction.
£ 175 per person.
Led by experienced experimental archaeologists, you’ll get hands-on experience learning how to build a traditional wattle and daub wall using techniques that were employed for centuries. From weaving the wattle framework to mixing and applying the daub, you’ll discover how simple, natural materials were transformed into strong and practical walls across the Roman and pre-modern world.
During the day, you’ll also enjoy a Roman-inspired lunch from our Thermopolium, offering a well-earned break before returning to the day’s practical work.
A unique opportunity to learn an ancient skill, get your hands dirty, and experience Roman building techniques for yourself.
