Newtlings: Midsummer Storymaker's Workshop
30, 30, 30 July / 10:00am
Join a magical writing workshop with award-winning author Angela McAllister. Sessions run at 10am, 12.30pm & 3pm.
£ 20 per person.
Inspired by Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and the enchanting landscapes of The Newt, this immersive workshop invites children to step into the world of storytelling alongside award-winning author Angela McAllister.
The experience begins with a storytelling session, introducing children to magical worlds and the secrets behind how authors find inspiration. Guided by Angela, Newtlings will then venture outdoors on a ‘Walk with a Storyteller's Eyes’, finding inspiration in nature, observing hidden details and sparking imagination amid the gardens and woodland.
Back in the workshop, children will use their discoveries to create an original magical character and begin crafting a story, poem or spell inspired by the world they have explored. Along the way, Angela will share practical storytelling tips and creative writing techniques to help bring their ideas to life.
(Each child will leave with a Midsummer Storymaker's notebook containing their observations, character sketches and original writing, a pocket guide filled with Angela's top storytelling tips, and a pencil to continue their creative journey at home.)
Children will also be invited to complete their stories and enter them into The Newt’s Midsummer Storymakers Prize, celebrating imagination, creativity and the magic of storytelling.
Suitable for ages 7+. We highly recommend children to attend independently to encourage focus and imagination. Adults are welcome to drop in at the end to hear their creations.
There are three sessions to choose from:
