Hauser & Wirth Somerset is home to a vibrant program of art exhibitions, events, learning activities and artists’ residencies, many of which connect with the local community and landscape. The Gardens are a delight too, with a planting installation by garden designer Piet Oudolf.

Messums Museum

Messums Wiltshire is a pioneering multi-purpose gallery and arts centre celebrating the creative endeavour. Opened in a thirteenth-century tithe barn – the largest thatched building in the country – the exhibition space is as striking as the art it contains.

Book in for a personal shopping appointment at Alice Temperley’s Somerset atelier in Ilminster and browse her ready-to-wear, evening wear and ethereal bridal wear. Shop for floor-length sequins, dance ‘til dawn dresses and past-season treasures.

The Giant Shepton Flea Market

As the name unsubtly suggests, this is one of the UK’s largest and most celebrated markets, drawing collectors and treasure-seekers from far and wide. There is stall after stall of antiques, vintage clothing, retro furniture, garden pieces, art, jewellery, rugs, and general bric-a-brac. Come early for the best finds, then rummage into the afternoon.

Frome Independent Market

Taking over Frome’s streets the first Sunday of the month from March to December, this busy market abounds with vintage treasures and artisan-made pottery, jewellery and clothing. Buskers play from a small music stage and you’ll find delicious food everywhere you look. Things wrap up by 3pm, come early from 10am for the best flea-market finds.
