In this workshop, artist and willow weaver, Stefan Jenning will guide you in creating your own animal in willow to enjoy at home or in the garden this spring.
Enjoy coffee and pastries on arrival as Stefan introduces you to willow weaving and your materials. Once you've decided on your animal, Stefan will guide you through each step, offering insight on technique and shape. You'll break at 1pm to enjoy a delicious 2-course lunch at The Garden Café and complete your creature at around 4pm.
Willow weaving is part of the Somerset identity. Records of willow weaving date back to approximately 10,000 years ago, and the Romans highly valued the Somerset willow weaving artisans. In the 1950's, willow weaving declined with the increase in plastic products. However, this creative, practical and beautiful artform continues to be practised here at the Newt.
All materials and equipment are provided. The day incudes coffee & pastries on arrival and a 2-course lunch at The Garden Café.
