Hort Shorts: Seed Saving

Have you always wanted to grow your own plants from seed, but haven't been entirely sure about which seeds need what sort of preparation, what media they should be sown in and how to tend them once they have been sown? This is the short-format workshop for you.
Harvest seed from the gardens under guidance from our expert team. Learn how to collect, store, and sow seeds. This short course covers growing techniques and tips and tricks to ensure success.
The day begins with coffee and cinnamon buns as we discover what you want to achieve from growing from seed. Then it is out into the gardens to collect seed. We will cover ornamental and edible seed collection from our Colour Gardens, Cottage Garden and Kitchen Garden. Seeds collected, we return to the College Room to sort the seed from the chaff and discuss seed anatomy, germination techniques including stratification, smoke treatment, soaking etc. We cover tips for greater success and the common mistakes one can make with growing media, watering, temperature, time of year, light levels, seed depth etc.
All materials and equpment are provided.
Coffee/Tea and our signature cinnamon bun is included.
