Shinrin yoku, ‘forest bathing’, emerged out of Japan over four decades ago but in reality has been practised by humans for millennia. It is the act of taking in the forest atmosphere and consciously connecting with the natural surroundings.

The course is led by one of our qualified and experiences spa therapists Angie. You will meet at 8am, before the crowds arrive, to take full advantage of the quiet and stillness of the diverse and rich woodland habitat here at the Newt. During the slow, mindful walk, Angie will intersperse poetry and invitations for using all of your senses, the aim being relaxation, mindfulness, connection and immersion into the atmosphere of the healing woods. Your time together culminates with a meditation and a soothing cup of herbal tea, always freshly cut from our spa herb garden.

This experience is held on Sundays and is suitable for beginners and seasoned forest bathers alike, and is open to our garden members and hotel guests.
