The Story of Gardening
Dig in to the history of gardening and unearth its impact on people and culture, in our new immersive experience. Concealed within ancient woodland, The Story of Gardening transports you to gardens from around the world and throughout time - exploring the human impulse to shape beauty from the ground at our feet. Advance booking is required for the exhibition; café tables are allocated on a walk-in basis.
Discover horticultural history through multi-sensory Garden Rooms, from courtyards of the ancient world to the retreats of Islamic kings, Chinese philosophers, English landowners and the inhabitants of today’s living skyscrapers.
Get hands on with soil, scents, botany and design. Visit the world’s most famous gardens in virtual reality pods, admiring the abundant fruit trees of Babylonstoren or gazing into the lily ponds at Monet’s Giverny.
The Story of Gardening café serves sweet and savoury snacks following the journey of the Garden Rooms from Italy to Japan, taking inspiration from these international gardens and gastronomies. Tables are allocated on a walk-in basis.
With limited spaces available to ensure adequate distancing, we recommend booking in advance. You can also book on the day of your visit with our hosts. Head to the Deer Park to weave along The Viper - an exhilarating treetop walkway – before arriving at The Story of Gardening.
Entry is included in your Day Ticket or Garden Membership.
