A favoured hue and fragrance of the Victorian period, the purple-tinted, sweetly-scented Heliotrope was discovered in the Peruvian Andes by French doctor and botanist Joseph de Juissieu in 1735, and introduced to Europe in 1751, where it gained almost instant popularity. The first recorded use of heliotrope in English as a colour name, was in 1882.

Also known as the herbe d’amour (flower of love), heliotrope is said to represent endless love. We couldn’t think of a more fitting way to thank you for supporting our new app, which we hope you’ll love, too.
